Frequently asked questions
What are the most common questions people ask you about local wildlife and how you help them?
I have found an injured wild animal, what should I do?
What should people do if they find an injured animal, and what should they definitely NOT do?
Please contain where possible in a secure ventilated box which is dark to reduce stress but keep somewhere warm and away from loud noises. Food and water can be offered if advised to do so but please do not syring water into mouth or force feed any wild animal as this could make the situation a lot worse.
Are there any misconceptions about wildlife rescue that you'd like to clear up on this page?
Not all vets put wildlife to sleep, also the RSPCA don't always just put animals to sleep. If an animal is in severe discomfort / pain or carrying an injury which prevents release then euthanasia is the correct outcome.
What are the biggest threats to wildlife in Tameside, and how do you address them?
Our most common reason for admission is cat attacks and collisions with vehicles. Please be mindful if you have birds in your garden, especially if you have a cat, and please try to minimise risk by trying bell collars. If your cat does bring a bird or wild animal home, please seek advice immediately as treatment will be needed due to infection. If you are unlucky enough to hit an animal on the roads, please report this asap so we can collect and assess.
